Innovation Awards

The President's Research Excellence and Impact in Innovation Awards recognise UL employees who demonstrate outstanding ability in invention, creativity and engagement in innovation activities across the University.

The awards celebrate individuals and teams who contribute to the development of new ideas, technologies, and approaches, and who actively support innovation, collaboration, and the translation of research into impact.

Applications are reviewed in the following categories

  • Invention (selected from submitted Invention Disclosure Forms through the official Invention Disclosure process)
  • Commercial Impact (projects, spinouts, licensing activities, partnerships, collaborative innovations etc.).

Prize 

President’s Research Excellence and Impact medal and €1,000 research funding (One award per category).

How to apply

Invention Award Application 

Invention Awards are selected from Invention Disclosures submitted to the Technology Transfer Office in the preceding year.

If you would like to submit an Invention Disclosure please contact the relevant Case Manager

Commercial Impact Award

This award recognises University of Limerick research, knowledge or innovation that has delivered commercial and/or economic impact. Impact may include company creation, licensing income, industry adoption, productivity gains, job creation, investment leveraged, at regional, national or international level.

Impact may arise from activities undertaken over multiple years; however, applicants should clearly identify impact realised or advanced within the award period.

Evaluation

The President’s Research Excellence and Impact Excellence in Innovation Awards will be adjudicated by a panel with an independent Chairperson.
