Improvements in road infrastructure have brought Limerick’s population catchment to 500,000 people living within one hour of the city, with almost 50 per cent of those under 35 years.

Limerick is a living museum to its history, with stunning examples of medieval castles and cathedrals and elegant Georgian splendour lining its streets. To really get under its skin, make sure to visit Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, the Hunt Museum, Limerick Museum, Old Irish Ways Museum or indeed the People’s Museum of Limerick.

Limerick punches well above its weight when it comes to arts and culture thanks to the magnificent Limerick City Gallery of Art and our many venues and institutions (including the University Concert Hall, Limetree Theatre and Belltable Theatre), which attract world class performances across theatre and the arts. 

Since 2011, when Limerick was named as the European City of Sport, ‘Sporting Limerick’ has become synonymous for its interest and involvement a wide range of sports. Rugby, Gaelic games, soccer, golf, horse racing, basketball and tennis are the most popular sporting pastimes in the City.

Limerick is also the home to the International Rugby Experience - a fully interactive experience celebrating the game of rugby.
