What we do

The Peer-Supported Learning Centre assists students of historically difficult core modules from faculties all across the campus.

Based on the concept of "Working Better by Working Together", the PSLC uses small-group-based sessions where students work together with their peers and a trained leader who guides them through exercises that they work on together to deepen their understanding of the core concepts of the module being supported.

We call these sessions Peer-Supported Learning Groups or PSLG.

The PSLG sessions give students a chance to better understand the material, but also to make new friends in their classes, to see that not only they are finding the content challenging and to ask questions in a safe, risk-free environment.

If you think the students of your module could benefit from this approach, or you'd like to ask any other questions please feel free to reach out to us at peerlearning@ul.ie or explore this site for more information.

Does Peer-Supported Learning work?

What our students say

PSLC creates a relaxed environment due to the closeness in student years. Students are aware the only thing that separates a leader from them is not skill or experience but that the leader started college year or two before they did. This makes it a lot less daunting to engage with the class.

Luke O'Loughlin PSLG Leader, CSIS

PSLG is a safe are where no one is judged, My anxiety about the module was reduced by PSLG's pedagogical approach, in which the peer-leaders are students who have already successfully finished the module.

The Five Learning Centres @ CTL

The Five Learning Centres provide additional academic support to students at UL. Together, we also created the Digital Learner Support Hub (DLSH) which offers an online knowledge hub where you can access online resources independently from the five learning centres.

Click on each button below to find out more about DLSH and each centre.
