Christina Hennemann

Christina Hennemann is a PhD candidate at the School of English, Irish, & Communication. Her research interests include abortion poetics, the lyric address, lyrics of shame & silence, and literatures of trauma.

Breaking the Silence: Overcoming Shame and Trauma in Abortion Poetics.

Project Description

This project comprises a poetry collection exploring abortion in Ireland through historical, cultural, political, and personal lenses, as well as a critical component analysing abortion poetics through the theoretical frameworks of shame, trauma, and silence.

Publications

Christina's poetry is widely published in literary journals, such as Poetry Ireland, Poetry Wales, Abridged, Southword, Magma, The Marrow and elsewhere. 

Her debut poetry collection ‘Birthmark’ was published by Shearsman in 2025. She's also written about her project for The Conversation. 

Presentations 

Reading of three poems at 'Toxic: Masculinity and Health/Care Symposium' (University of Maynooth, May 2026).

Awards & Honours 

Christina received an Agility Award from Arts Council Ireland, a Mayo Artist Bursary and the Shared Island Freedom to Write Award supported by the John Hewitt Society and Irish PEN. Her awards include the Diana Woods Memorial Award in creative nonfiction and the Luain Press Poetry Prize.
