On Tuesday, 03 October 2023, Cohort One of the Global Leadership for Sustainable Development (GLSD) programme embarked on a site visit to Limerick Chamber. Hosted by Seán Golden and members of the Chamber team, students gained valuable insights into Limerick and the Mid-West's economic strengths, opportunities, and challenges.

During the visit, students engaged in a dynamic discussion about the region's economic landscape. They heard firsthand accounts from Chamber representatives, exploring various aspects such as industry trends, business opportunities, and potential barriers to growth.

Seán Golden and his team provided invaluable perspectives on the role of business in driving economic development and sustainability initiatives in the region. Through interactive dialogue and exchange of ideas, students gained a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between economic prosperity and environmental stewardship.

The visit to Limerick Chamber served as a catalyst for Cohort One to explore opportunities for sustainable economic growth in the region. Inspired by the insights gained, students expressed a renewed commitment to leveraging their skills and knowledge to contribute positively to Limerick's vibrant economic ecosystem.

Global Leadership for Sustainable Development (GLSD) is a seven-week extracurricular programme designed by the UL Centre for Sustainable Futures and Innovation in collaboration with UL Global. This programme brings study abroad, Erasmus, and full degree students from across the world together, to actively learn about systemic approaches and challenges to sustainability across the economy, environment, and society. Students hear from expert guest speakers both on-campus and through site visits, engage in debates and discussions on contemporary sustainability issues, and work in interdisciplinary teams to co-create student-led sustainability projects to be implemented on campus.
