Meet Megan

Megan O'Mahony is a graduate of both the BSc in Product Design and Technology, and the MSc in Design for Health and Wellbeing. As a product designer, her passion is to actively create, design and build products that positively affect change in peoples lives.

Megan's known she would pursue a career in design after selling her first piece of art at the age of 16 to her secondary school teacher in Kinsale Community School. This passion for art led her to study Product Design and Technology at the University of Limerick, which enabled her to gain valuable skills from the basics of ideating, sketching and modelmaking to the more rigorous end of design such as Solidworks, 3D printing, Adobe Suite tools amongst other skills. Since her undergraduate, she's focused on design for vocal coaching, which has come from a culmination of knowledge from her degrees as well as 7 years of vocal coaching lessons in Cork.

In her MSc, she explored voice to generate vocal recovery and repair, and to improve vocal ability and strength without compromising the voice. She designed a semi-occluded vocal device for speech and language therapy patients and voice users. This was a continuation from her undergraduate project, developed from a vocal health tool for singers to a dynamic vocal therapy aide that combines existing speech and language therapies and elevates their place in the current vocal therapy eco-system.

Her project was overseen with feedback, finances and guidance from the Product Design and Performing Arts research cluster at UL, which is funded by the Health Research Institute at UL.
