New Erasmus Mundus project to develop joint Master's programme in AI-Enabled Sustainable Digital Finance
The University of Limerick will coordinate a new Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) project bringing together artificial intelligence, digital finance and sustainability.
AISFin - AI-Enabled Sustainable Digital Finance has been awarded €60,000 under the Erasmus+ programme and will begin in December 2026. The 15-month project is coordinated by Dr Nikola Nikolov of UL's Department of Computer Science and Information Systems and brings together the University of Limerick, Ireland, University of Aveiro, Portugal, and University of Sousse, Tunisia.
At UL, AISFin is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Kemmy Business School, bringing together expertise in computer science, artificial intelligence, finance and risk. The UL team includes Dr Nikola Nikolov, Prof. Stephen Kinsella, Dr Barry Sheehan and Dr Darren Shannon.
The project will co-design the curriculum and academic framework for an innovative joint Master's programme at the intersection of AI, digital finance and sustainability. It will combine expertise in AI, data analytics, digital technologies, finance and sustainability to develop a future-oriented curriculum that responds to emerging societal and labour-market needs.
Through collaboration between universities in North Africa and Europe, AISFin will also strengthen academic links across the Mediterranean and create new opportunities for knowledge exchange, student mobility and long-term international cooperation.
The project's longer-term ambition is to lay the foundations for a future Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in AI-Enabled Sustainable Digital Finance, equipping graduates with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to contribute to Europe's digital and green transitions and to a more innovative, digitally capable and sustainable future.
