Today, May 13, 2026, marks the inaugural European Doctoral Day - a continent-wide celebration, with over 180 events taking place across Europe.
This day aims to highlight the pivotal role of PhD holders and of doctoral education in driving scientific excellence, innovation, and societal progress, both within academia and beyond.

To mark EuropeanDoctoralDay, at UL we have launched a PhotoVoice-inspired exhibition exploring the lived experience of doctoral education from the perspective of postgraduate researchers and their supervisors.
Through jointly created photographs and reflections, contributors share the relationships, challenges, conversations, and moments of support that shape doctoral life at UL. The exhibition highlights that doctoral progress is rarely linear and that strong supervision, community, and trust play a vital role in helping researchers navigate uncertainty and move forward with confidence.
