PHYSICS DEPT. RESEARCH DAY  – 19th May 2023
The event showcased the breadth of research conducted in the Department and was an excellent opportunity for networking and engaging with the Physics community at UL. The programme included: Thesis-in-3, Image Competition and Academic Talks from current PhD candidates, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Faculty members.

DR. VINCENT CASEY BEST FINAL YEAR PROJECT IN PHYSICS 2023

The Department of Physics awarded the inaugural Dr. Vincent Casey Best Final Year Project in Physics 2023 to Ethan Shanahan, a 4th Year undergraduate student in the B.Sc. Mathematics and Physics course. The award was presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Sean Arkins, on the 25th May 2023 at The White House, UL Campus.

UL PERIODIC TABLE 2023

Pictured above are Celine and Triona viewing the newly installed Interactive Periodic Table in the Department of Chemical Sciences. The Department of Physics purchased the element, Vanadium in memory of Dr. Vincent Casey.

ELECTION TO NATIONAL COMMITTEES

Congratulations to Robert Lynch (Course Director of the BSc in Applied Physics at the University of Limerick) who was recently elected to the Institute of Physics Ireland Committee.

Congratulations to Jack O’ Callaghan (4th Year PhD student) who was recently elected as chairperson of the Inclusion and Diversity society, a national EDI society with Engineer’s Ireland.
