Supply Chain Management - BSc

During this programme, you will:  

• Explore various concepts of operations management applicable to supply chain management grounded in the SCOR model. 

• Evaluate the performance of supply chain activities and identify opportunities for improvement and integration. 

• Respond to rapid changes in demand and capacity by adjusting and optimising supply chain activities. 

• Apply operations management models and best-practice techniques to address new or emerging situations and changes.

• Complete part-time over two years  

• Students will be enrolled on year 3 & year4 of the programme

• Submit company-based project at the end of the final semester

Year 1 

Autumn Semester 

• Advance Models and Frameworks for SCM (PT4057) will introduce students to a range of frameworks to inform systematic thinking on the alignment, design, implementation and operation supply chains to promote their agility, adaptability and growth. 

• Plan with Supply Chains (PT3011) focuses on the centrality of planning activity in the context of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference Model (SCOR). 

• Make within Supply Chains (PT3021) outlines how production systems have developed and identifies how they are being impacted by recent developments. 

• Organisational Behaviour 1 (PM3081) will provide an understanding of the influence of motivation, perception, attitudes and group behaviour upon job performance and job satisfaction. 

Spring Semester  

• Source within Supply Chains (PT3051) explains the context, role and objectives of purchasing activity in supply chains and key concepts in supply-based development. 

• Delivery and Return within Supply Chains (PT3061) offers a broad framework and clear description of the basic functions and elements related to logistics and distribution. 

• Business Intelligence and Decision Making (AC3012) aims to provide learners with an appreciation of financial and management accounting. 

• Statistics (AU3023) provides a basic introduction to the ideas of probability and statistics, and how probability can be applied in a number of contexts including statistical inference. 

Summer Semester 

• Lean Sigma: Improvement Methodologies (PT3041) will explain the concept of Six Sigma by knowing the definitions of quality and the principles on which quality management philosophies are based. 

• Supply Chain Dynamics Game (PT4003) enables students to apply their knowledge of supply chain management to compete in an online simulation game  

Year 2 

Autumn Semester 

• Management of Change (MG3602) provides an overview of the issues managers face regarding the continuous management of change in their organisation. 

• SCM and Customer Relationship Management (MG4917) is designed to enable the students to comprehend how understanding the needs of the customer is an essential part of Supply Chain Management and should transcend all elements of the supply chain. 

• Integrating Product Development into Production (PT3081) Product development across a supply chain, distributed NPD, NPD Tools and Emerging NPD Paradigms. 

• Simulation Modelling and Analysis (PT4067) provide students with a knowledge on discrete event simulation modelling and its application to manufacturing, logistic and services systems. Modelling and software capabilities to apply simulation to manufacturing, logistic and services systems. 

Spring Semester 

• Supply Chain Risk Assessment and Forecasting (MG4181) provides the tools to cope with disruptions caused by uncertain economic cycles, consumer demands, natural and man-made disasters within the supply chain process. 

• Strategic Management (MG3652) Introducing Strategy, Strategic dimensions, environments and business models. Organisational strategy in the form of a business model canvas. Organisational strategy in the form of a value chain. Industry analyses and theories of competitive advantage. 

• Corporate Social Responsibility (AC4906) The central objective of this module is to introduce Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to students. In doing so it is intended to provide a framework for examining and evaluating the actions and performance of organisations in the context of sustainable and socially responsible activity. 

• Information Systems and Decision Support (PT3071) emphasises the importance of supply chain information systems and develops knowledge of the software development process and the basic concepts of programming. 

Summer Semester 

• Supply Chain Project (PT3091)  

Integrate the different aspects of the taught stream and apply the acquired knowledge to a business standard, industry focused project. 

Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

• Applicants should hold a NFQ Level 7 award with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in any discipline from a third-level institution, a NCEA National Diploma or equivalent qualification. APICS qualifications will also be considered 

• You should have at least 3 years of relevant organisational work experience, and aspire to, or hold a management position.
