EMERGE —Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement—is a transformative initiative that reimagines the future of higher education through deep transnational collaboration, inclusion, and innovation. It brings together nine universities from eight countries. Coordinated by UL, the alliance is united by a shared commitment to build a more connected and inclusive European future through education that transcends borders and empowers communities.
At its core, EMERGE challenges the idea that excellence resides only at the centre. It is designed to empower the margins—geographically, socially, and academically—ensuring that voices too often overlooked are not only included, but central. The alliance celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity, fosters joint degrees and mobility, and builds a European campus that is open, green, digital, and resilient.
