We have two opportunities in our group for fully-funded PhD positions. Funding covers fees (at EU rates), a stipend (equivalent to the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship), and all research expenses. Funding runs from the time of appointment until December 2023.
The first position is for someone in the social sciences with an interest in social identity. Their PhD will explore how people use attitudes in networks to form/defend groups, and how these processes are vulnerable to bot influence. Click this link for more information on this position.
The second position is for someone interested in computational social science, network science, agent-based modelling and social media research to develop models of opinion-based groups in multilayer/multimode networks. Click this link for more information on this position.
The deadline for applications is midnight (Irish Standard Time) on Sunday 8 December 2019. Interviews for shortlisted applicants will be held by video-call on the 19th and 20th of December. Ideally succesful candidates will start in the Spring semester (27/01/2020). In exceptional cases we might consider delaying the start until the Autumn semester (September 2020), but this would reduce the number of months of funding available. We welcome applications from non-EU candidates, but additional fees mean that the stipend component would be slightly reduced.
Who are we looking for? We are looking for good colleagues with a solid academic background who will work well in a team, and are excited about doing good research and -- hopeful -- discovering something exciting about the psychology of attitudes in society.

- A one-page expression of interest explaining your interest in the research we are doing, how it intersects with your training and experience, and any ways that you fully or partially meet the desirable criteria in the position descriptions (see links above). Clearly specify whcih of the positions you are applying for.
- A page giving the name and contact details for at least one academic reference. Please ask your referee first, and warn them that we will be asking for a brief letter of reference in the week of the 9th December for shortlisted candidates.
- A brief CV, listing experience relevant to your potential as a PhD student, eg. education; awards & commendations; social engagement; work & research experience; student conference presentations or peer-reviewed publications. For multi-author publications please specify what you contributed towards the publiction.
- An academic transcript showing your grades for your previous degrees. This can be a table you produce yourself or an official transcript.
- A sample of your own academic writing; ideally your undergraduate or postgraduate thesis or a paper that you had a large part in writing.
