How to Check your Progress
If you would like to know your progress towards qualifying for an exemption from any CAP1 paper, you can do so by using the appropriately attached spreadsheets:

BBS (A&F):    CAI CLAIM2013BBS.xls
BA Law & Accounting:     CAI CLAIM 2013 L&A.xls

Simply answer 'Yes' to both questions in Step 1, then for each CAP1 paper, input the grades for the modules you have attempted so far.  This will show you your grade average to-date and will enable you to determine your grade requirements for the remaining modules.

Claiming Exemptions
Following the receipt of your final semester grades, you will be in a position to determine your exemptions entitlement.  To claim your exemptions from the CAI, simply:

  1. Complete the appropriate exemptions spreadsheet following the instructions in it and forward it by email to Kathleen Regan (Kathleen.Regan@ul.ie).
    BBS (A&F)  CAI CLAIM 2013 BBS.xls
    BA L&A  CAI CLAIM 2013 L&A.xls
  2. Complete the CAI Application Form listing the exemptions that you are claiming and enclosing a copy of your student transcript.  If you have a training contract, your employer may be submitting this form on your behalf.  It may be worth confirming with them if this is the case.  The closing date for submission is 29th July.

Missed out on Exemptions?

It may happen that, having verified your exemptions entitlement, you have not secured an exemption from all the CAP1 papers.  In such circumstances, it may be possible to undertake the CAI exam as an external student for the CAP1 paper(s) on which you missed out.  These exams are normally held by the CAI in May and September.

To apply to sit as an external student, simply complete the CAI Application Form (External Entry), ensuring that it is stamped by Student Academic Administration as appropriate.  Submit the complete form (together with the appropriate fee and any requested documentation) to the CAI before the deadline for the appropriate sitting (May sitting - 5th February; September sitting - 23rd July).
