Overview:
The Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Limerick offers the Special Mathematics Examination (SME), allowing Leaving Certificate students a second opportunity to meet the mathematics entry requirements for all Science and Engineering programmes within the faculty.

In addition to these, this exam can also be taken for entry to select programmes outside the faculty, specifically: LM092, LM094, LM095, LM096, and LM097.

This exam is specifically for students who:

  • Have achieved the necessary CAO points,
  • Meet all other entry requirements,
  • But did not attain the required grade in Higher Level Mathematics in the Leaving Certificate.

The exam is based solely on the Higher Level Mathematics curriculum from the Leaving Certificate.
