The ZONYX system is designed to meet procedural needs associated with the Trans-caval approach to minimally invasive heart procedures (TAVR). During the Transcaval access procedure a hole is created in the wall of the Vena Cava and the aorta to allow catheters to cross from on to the other. The design reduces post-procedural internal bleeding and risk of complications. By leveraging existing ultrasonic cautery practices and applying them in a new context, I have created a multistage access and closure device which is suitable for multiple vascular procedures. The catheter of the device is tracked to the puncture site and the ZONYX jaws grip vessel punctures. Ultrasonic energy is utilised to cauterise the tissue to allow for a non-implant closure option.
