Mairead commenced in her role as National Doctors Training Planning (NDTP) & Health Sciences Academy (HSA) Coordinator in April 2023, working across UL Hospitals Group, Mid-West Community Healthcare and University of Limerick. The main objective of the Academy is to build on the expertise in the organisations to bring research, education and innovation closer together, leading to high-level educational experience, career development opportunities and ultimately, enhanced patient outcomes. There have been many successes since joining the NDTP & Health Sciences Academy team  including securing a funding award from HSE Spark Innovation Programme, highly commended finalist at the HSE Excellence Awards 2023 for its works in the award winning UL Hospitals Group NCHD App. She sits in the NDTP National Taskforce, Midwest Innovation in Healthcare and Medical Training Committees and plays a critical role in the development of an academic health sciences system in the Midwest.

Mairead graduated with a primary degree in Business, majoring in Marketing from TUS Limerick and gained experience in a wide variety of specialities during her early career working in Ireland, both public and private sector, the Middle East and France. As a Global Marketing Manager with Cook Medical, she led launches of medical devices across Europe Middle East Africa and the Americas, supporting a multidisciplinary approach to providing quality, innovative products to clinicians and ultimately to patients.

She completed her Masters in International Tourism with a strong marketing focus. This was a new position, the purpose of which was to develop and implement a PALS service that was responsive to patients’ needs, working to strengthen the voice of the patient and public in planning and delivering health services and having a strong focus on quality improvement.

In addition, Mairead holds a Professional Certificate in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute of Ireland in Dublin and is a member of the UL Website Editors Forum.

Mairead joined the HSE in 2019 as Personal Assistant to the Director of Quality & Patient Safety, then went on to Staff Officer and Section Officer roles in Human Resources both in Acutes and Community based services.

She was involved in delivering the 2023 UL Hospitals Group Action & Implementation Plan to the Irish Medical Council, the inaugural Building an Academic Health Science System in the Mid West conference and Mid-West Innovation in Healthcare call for funding and awards.
