The Department of Economics at the Kemmy Business School hosted the INAUGURAL LECTURE of Stephen Kinsella, Professor of Economics, on Tuesday 19 Sep 2023.

Most inaugural lectures detail a specific contribution to a specific literature. Stephen Kinsella's inaugural lecture did not do this. Instead he gave us three stories from his career to date. These were the development of agent based macroeconomic models, the role of the University in the City, and the development of Immersive Software Engineering and related programmes. Stephen finished up his lecture with a list of things he has learned in his 17 years at UL, including the value of generosity, ideas and implementation, the reality of good people being everywhere and ready to help, and finally, how much you should tweet!

The topic of the lecture was ‘The Varieties of Economic Experience: From computer science to the collapse and recovery of the Irish Economy and back again’.
