KBS Assistant Dean Academic Affairs Announcements

14 December 2020

The closing date for Module Grade Entry is  11am  Monday 11th January 2021.  Please ensure you have your grades ‘in’ on time.

The Progression Decision Entry will be open from Friday the 15th January at 2pm and will close Tuesday at 11am on 19th January 2021.

The Kemmy Business School Autumn Grading Meeting  will take place at 2.30pm on MS Teams on Monday 18th January, 2021 to ratify grades for the Autumn semester (invitation to follow). The KBS Grading meeting will be governed by the following regulations:

4.3.5 Progression Following Autumn Semester

4.3.5.1 Only students due to start Cooperative Education placement or other professional placement in the Spring semester are subject to critical review. Once a student has progressed into the year in which the Cooperative Education or other professional placement takes place, progression to such placement is automatic except in those cases where students who are required to repeat the year or part thereof would be prevented from doing so by the timing of the placement.

4.3.5.2 Students who have not met the minimum standards will, on the recommendation of the relevant Examination Board, be required to do one of the following:

  1. Take annual repeats for a maximum of two modules (excluding I grades) from the Autumn semester
  2. Repeat a full semester
  3. Repeat the full year
  4. Have their enrolment terminated

4.3.5.3 Faculty Examination Boards may specify modules to be repeated by non-progressing students.

4.3.5.4 Eligibility for access to the annual repeats is based on a residual QCA of at least 2.00.

The meeting will also review ‘referred modules’ where QPV is lower than 2.00 or greater than 3.29.  The VPAA requests that, in advance of the Academic Council Grading Committee meeting on Wednesday 20th, a written explanation for this QPV and an indication as to what will be different with the module (teaching/assessment) next year be provided by the module leader in consultation with their HOD,  before 2pm Monday 18th January (please email this to me).

Progression Decisions:  Course directors of relevant programmes will receive an email on Friday January 15th to log on to the Progression Decision Entry System where you are required to make a progression decision on students with deficient grades (see regulations above).  Please STORE decision before 2pm Monday 18th January 2021.  Do not SUBMIT decision, we will do this at the meeting at 2.30pm of the same day.  In advance of the meeting, let me remind course directors to have their Progression Decision Entry account open and ready to share on MS Teams.

EXCEPTIONS TO BE RAISED AT ACGC: HOD/CD to upload on-line and submit before the ACGC

CDs who are unable to attend should nominate and brief a representative (also, let me know in advance of the meeting please).  The CD should also contact Academic Registry (AR) and ask for their representative to have access to the course material in Student Records (SI).

11 November 2020

The next window for the MGE will be open for 17th/ 18th   November to enter any remaining thesis grades.  If you have outstanding dissertation grades and in particular dissertation grading sheets, please send them to the KBS Postgraduate Office, cc’ing the appropriate Course Director at your earliest convenience.

The KBS Examboard is scheduled for 9am – 11am Tuesday 1st December 2020 (MSTeams invitation to follow).  The ADAA with faculty must confirm the students’ awards on KBS Examboard live excel file and return it to Records by 11am on Wednesday 2nd December.

To support the entry of awards, please find attached the KBS policy on the use of the UL discretionary bands. Also please note the difference between “Not Present” and “Defer”:

Difference between ‘Not Present’ and ‘Defer’

Defer is when the student is 'at fault', hasn't presented for, or failed modules - for example, F grade.

Students who are deferred as a result of non-completion of their dissertations are not capped. They are asked to link in to repeat and link-ins are not capped - the penalty is the payment of the fee and the delay in graduation.

Not Present is when there is an 'I' grade or the student has been given an extension, the student is NOT at fault, and is not capped. The difference between the two affects the fees students pay to resubmit.

Finally, the University Examboard is due to take place on Thursday 3rd December 2020 and other key dates are as follows:
