Limerick-born and raised, Aongus Hegarty serves as President of Dell for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In that role, he is responsible for the company's business across the region, leading the Dell teams that deliver innovative, efficient and practical technology solutions to its customers.

Aongus graduated from the University of Limerick with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Studies in 1989. When he joined Dell in 1999, he brought significant technology industry experience to the company having previously held senior leadership positions with Modus Media, Stream International and Digital Equipment Corporation, although he recalls his first job was welding cars for BMW in Munich while he was a student.

Prior to assuming his current role, Aongus served as Vice President and General Manager for Dell's Consumer, Small & Medium Business (CSMB) division in EMEA. A fourteen year veteran of Dell, he has held a number of senior roles within the organisation including Vice President of Marketing for Dell's European Consumer and Small Business Division.

Dell's mission is to deliver technology solutions that enable people everywhere to grow, thrive and reach their full potential. Dell believes in openness, optimism, and above all winning with integrity, delivering results that make a positive difference to the world. In the last financial year Dell had a global annual revenue of over $56 billion, with $15 billion in cash and investments. In EMEA Dell employs over 17,500 people, across almost 100 locations.

In addition to driving Dell's business in EMEA today, Aongus is also the executive sponsor for Dell's Global Giving Council in the region, overseeing the investment of significant funding to not for profit organisations. He also co-leads Dell's EMEA Women's Network, and is a member of the Dell Global Diversity Council chaired by Michael Dell.

As a result of his efforts, the number of female executives on the EMEA leadership team and the number of chapters of Dell's Women's Network in the region have both increased. Aongus explains "The on-going commitment to fostering female talent within Dell has led to an increased focus on the issue at all levels of the organisation. This is delivering tangible results which are having a positive impact on both Dell's employees and on the performance of the business.”

Aongus trained as an Accountant and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He is also a member of the Executive Council for the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union.

In November, 2012, Aongus returned to his alma mater as a guest of the UL Alumni Association to deliver the 5th UL Alumni Lecture to an audience of alumni, students, faculty, staff and business colleagues.

Aongus is married to Martina with two young sons. He is a keen follower of Gaelic Football, Hurling & Rugby. He comes from a long line of lighthouse keepers and has been quoted as saying that the only thing which could tempt him away from his current "dream job” at Dell would be a paid position as a captain of a yacht sailing around the world!
