Prestigious Fulbright Scholarship

The School of Medicine is delighted to announce a new scholarship for the MSc. Public Health in partnership with the Fulbright Commission. Fulbright have always been associated with the best and brightest of scholars and the School of Medicine are delighted to continue that tradition in offering this prestigious scholarship opportunity to study on the MSc. Public Health programme. 

The MSc. Public Health in the School of Medicine was designed in collaboration with health service partners and multidisciplinary stakeholders. It offers a student-centred learning model with an emphasis on community and collaborative learning. The MSc. Public Health is designed to equip students with marketable and transferable skillset and competencies that will enhance their career in public health or other health-related disciplines. The focus of the programme is to move from traditional public health teaching into more applied public health education. Our Faculty believe in the vision of "Theory to Practice" and the focus for our students is on competency-based learning in order to embed transferable skills in Public Health in addition to building theoretical knowledge. The MSc. Public Health curriculum is accredited by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA) which represents the five leading associations of Public Health in the European Region and is committed to assuring and improving the quality of educational activities throughout Europe and the globe. 

Dr. Niamh Cummins is a Lecturer in Public Health and has been leading the Fulbright scholarship initiative on behalf of the School of Medicine. Speaking about the scholarship Dr. Cummins stated “Through this partnership with Fulbright we aspire to educate a new generation of knowledgeable and compassionate Public Health professionals who will work to improve health and wellbeing, increase sustainability and reduce health inequalities on both sides of the Atlantic. Public Health, Dr. Khalifa Elmusharaf added “The Fulbright scholarship will be the second scholarship on offer for our Masters following on from our successful Sustainability Leader Scholarship which has already commenced this academic year. The Public Health programme in the School of Medicine has previously hosted a Fulbright Research Scholar and we are proud to now continue our relationship with Fulbright by offering this prestigious opportunity to a postgraduate student”. 

The purpose of the Fulbright scholarship is to enable eligible American citizens who are resident in the United States to complete a fully funded taught Masters programme in Public Health at the University of Limerick over a period of 1 year.  The scholarship includes a fee waiver covering the costs of tuition and a student bursary for the successful candidate commencing in August 2023. The deadline for Fulbright scholarship applications is October 11th 2022, however, students are encouraged to start the application process as soon as possible in order to meet all of the requirements for the scholarship.
