The Neurosurgery Service at Children Health Ireland (CHI) at Temple St provides a national service caring for every child in Ireland 0-16 yrs who requires neurosurgical management.

The Paediatric Neurosurgery Outreach Education Programme aims to provide  up to date evidence based education to healthcare professional from acute and community services nationally involved in the recognition and management of children with new and existing neurosurgical conditions. It also aims to establish strong collaborative relationships with HCP throughout the country to achieve the best outcomes and optimal experience for children and their families.

The programme involves the delivery on an in person study day in each tertiary hospital that is prepared and delivered collaboratively with local clinicians and nurse educators.

Last friday 13th Oct 2023 representatives of the neurosurgery dept , Mr John Caird, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Ms Cora Vizzard and Ms Annette Reddy from the Neurosurgery Nursing team and Emma Holohan, Neurosurgery Clinical Services Co-Ordinator were delighted to bring the programme to University Hospital Limerick  in the wonderful Clinical Education and Research Facility attached to the hospital. The clinical team lead by Prof Clodagh O’Gorman of University Hospital Limerick and Nurse Tutor Emer O’Donoghue collaborated with the neurosurgery team to prepare and deliver the study day.

The programme offered its usual mix of presentations, workshops and case presentation as well as featuring an excellent presentation on Paediatric Head Injury Management by Mr John Caird Consultant Neurosurgeon, at the hospital "Grand Rounds “ session that was very well attended.
