Dr Patrick O’Donnell met with Minister Hildegarde Naughton as part of the HSE National Naloxone Quality Assurance Group International Overdose Awareness Day events on August 31st. The Ministers remit covers Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy. The theme for this year’s event was “Recognising those people who go unseen”, and these include the family and friends grieving the loss of a loved one from overdose, workers in healthcare and support services and first responders. Daniel O’Callaghan from UCC also presented on living with bereavement by drug related death in Ireland, and Professor Jo-Hanna Ivers form TCD presented on Advancing Addiction Recovery in Ireland.
