Karrina McNamara
Karrina is an Instrument Scientist at the Bernal Institute. In 2014 she graduated with a PhD in Material Surface Characterisation from the University of Limerick under the supervision of Prof. Tofail Syed. Her doctoral thesis focused on surface and interfacial analysis of sputtered deposited thin films on biomedical alloys using a variety of characterisation techniques such as XPS, SEM, TEM & AFM. Prior to this she received her undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemistry from University of Limerick in 2009.
From 2014-2018 she was a postdoctoral researcher with the MOSAIC group in Bernal Institute working mainly on Industry and European projects in the areas of spectroscopy (XPS, FT-IR) and microscopy (SEM & TEM). In 2018 she received the SFI Industrial Fellowship where she got the opportunity to work for 1 year with a Multinational company.
She is currently responsible for Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and MALDI-ToF instruments at the Bernal Institute.
