Carla Aparecida Arena Ventura, BA, LLM, MBA, PhD, completed her Bachelors Degree in International Relations at the University of Brasília (UnB), Brazil, and a Bachelor Degree in Law at the University of the State of São Paulo (UNESP), Brazil. She has an MBA from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil and completed a Specialization Program in Leadership with focus on people in higher education institutions at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, Spain. She received her Master in International Law from the University of the State of São Paulo (UNESP), Brazil and her Doctoral Degree in Administration from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. During her PhD studies, she was a Fulbright Doctoral Fellow at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, USA. She was the Academic Coordinator of the International Research Capacity Building Program for Health Related Professionals to study the Drug Phenomenon in Latin America and the Caribbean (IRCBP), organized by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) at the University of Toronto in partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS), in 2014 and 2015. From January to March 2014, she was a Fulbright Scholar (Chair on Human Rights) at the Center for Civil and Human Rights, University of Notre Dame, South Bend. Currently, she is a Full Professor at the Department of Psychiatric Nursing and Human Sciences from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on Human Rights and the Right to Health; Health and Development; Global Health; International Mental Health and Bioethics and Nursing Legislation. She coordinates an interdisciplinary Research Group on Global Health, Law and Development (GEPESADES), leading a team of undergraduate, Master, Doctoral and Post Doctoral students. From 2008 to 2014, she was the Executive Coordinator of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery Development. Since June 2017, she is the Director of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Research Development at the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, Brazil. In 2012, she was elected President of the IRCBP Alumni Association. During 2017, she was a fellow of the Program Leaders for Health Equity, offered by George Washington University, Milken Institute School of Public Health, USA. Since May 2018, she is an Adjunct International Professor at the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre, University of Alberta, Canada and since 2023, she is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Education & Health Sciences. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Nursing Ethics Journal and is being nominated an Associate Editor for South America of the Primary Health Care Research and Development Journal. In August 2023, she was appointed Coordinator of the hub of the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo in the Ribeirão Preto Campus. She develops research on human rights, mental health and drugs; health equity; stigma and human rights; health law; global health and development; human rights education, social participation and control.
