Annabel, who completed her BSc in Nursing Studies at UL and is currently pursuing her MSc in Nursing Studies gives her testimony below:

“My name is Annabel Chidiebere Ogbuagu from Nigeria. I did my nursing diploma in Nigeria and obtained nurse registration from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Nigeria. In 2021, I made a significant move to Ireland to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Studies at the University of Limerick. I successfully completed this programme in August 2022. I was successful in my application for a Department of Nursing and Midwifery Summer Student Scholarship. This funded eight-week scholarship, afforded me the opportunity to engage and collaborate in a research project. Working with other researchers during this scholarship opportunity enabled me to learn and further develop my research skills and helped develop my confidence in carrying out research. I also gained experience of being involved in every aspect of the research process and I am delighted I received opportunities to collaborate on and co-author two journal publications:

Markey, K., Ogbuagu, A.C., O’ Brien, B. (2022). Migrant women and mental health. British Journal of Midwifery. 30 (10), 1-5. https://doi.org/10.12968/bjom.2022.30.10.592

Ogbuagu, A.C., Manning, M., Leo, R., MacFarlane, A., Markey, K. (2023). Caring for culturally and linguistically diverse patients: a review. Journal of General Practice Nursing, 9 (2), 45-49. https://go.gale.com/ps/i.do?id=GALE%7CA758335294&sid=sitemap&v=2.1&it=r&p=HRCA&sw=w&userGroupName=anon%7E33dc1d91&aty=open-web-entry

Consequently, I commenced the MSc in Nursing Studies, at the University of Limerick in September 2023 and I am delighted to be back studying in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Limerick. My time at the University of Limerick has been enriching, exposing me to students from diverse cultural backgrounds, new learning experiences and many opportunities for personal, professional, and academic developments.  This experience, coupled with the university's strong emphasis on research, has instilled in me an appreciation for the importance of research in maintaining evidence-based practice.”
