In this event, the panel will discuss their views on the scope, objectives, opportunities and challenges in Life Sciences with the aim of informing the development of a new Life Sciences strategy for University of Limerick. The audience will hear from theme leaders across the Life Sciences areas in UL and will also hear from the Director of SSPC who will give his perspective on the importance of UL developing a coherent Life Sciences strategy.
Towards the development of an Age-Friendly Health System
ERB008 | 11am-12pm
Current healthcare systems are mostly designed to care for people with a single illness or injury and are often unable to care for older adults with unique and multidimensional needs.
As a result, older adults remain among the most vulnerable populations in healthcare, with one in three experiencing functional decline during an acute hospital admission.
There is growing evidence that care delivered through an Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS) lens can significantly improve outcomes and experiences for older adults.
This symposium will present evidence underpinning the development, implementation, and evaluation of AFHSs.
Pillars, doughnuts, wedding cakes: multidimensional sustainability models
ERB001 | 11am-1pm
What role does physical activity have in addressing global sustainability challenges?
Following the success of Research Week 2025, the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAfH) returns with a dynamic research excellence session and interactive panel discussion exploring how physical activity can both contribute to - and potentially complicate - efforts to advance the climate agenda. Challenging the status quo, we will consider how health can and should be positioned as a core ingredient of a sustainable, smart society.
The event will feature an outstanding international keynote speaker, Professor Peter Gelius, Université de Lausanne, Switzerland recognised for his engaging and accessible communication style.
The session will be provocative, inclusive and discussion-driven.
