Peter is currently a PhD candidate on the FIBREMET project. Previously, Peter graduated from University College Cork with a BSc in Biochemistry in 2017. His final year project focused on characterising the bile salt hydrolase capacity of bile acid metabolising bacteria isolated from the human gastrointestinal tract. Subsequently, Peter continued his studies in UCC and undertook an MRes programme in Biochemistry. During this time Peter worked on human and murine models of colorectal cancer determining the bile acid and fatty acid signatures in order to track changes to metabolism which may occur in this disease. Peter has vast experience with metabolomics of bile acids and fatty acids in relation to the gut microbiota in the setting of various gastrointestinal diseases.
