Geraldine gained her BSc in Speech and Language Therapy from University College Cork. She took up employment with Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, Southern Region where she provided SLT services to children and young people with intellectual disability and/or autism. While based in a variety of special schools and autism settings, she worked closely with families, teaching staff and multidisciplinary teams. Following the recent roll-out of Progressing Disability Services, she worked as part of an interdisciplinary team providing assessments and supports to those with complex needs in a Children’s Disability Network Team in Cork.In addition to her core SLT role, she has taken on many other tasks including being a PBL Tutor to undergraduates in the BSc Speech and Language Therapy in UCC; serving as a representative of the profession on the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board (CORU); and serving as a member of the IASLT committee which developed the guidelines on the use of AAC. She is a tutor in both Lámh and Hanen, and has presented at a number of national training events including the Lámh Study Day; the Autism SIG Conference; and the INTO Bi-Annual Special Educ. Conference in 2019. She participated in the Working Group who researched and developed the content for the award-winning Lámh Time app and also developed a communication app. She has facilitated various research projects by final year students, including Core Vocabulary Approaches, and the use of Video Modelling in Developing Play Skills in Children with ASD.
