Date: Monday, 3 December 2007

The Regional Writing Centre came into being in 2007 with the goal of initiating and perpetuating a conversation on writing.

Our first symposium took place in the same year. Under the title "Research on Writing Practices: Consequences for the Teaching of Writing and Learner Outcomes", it featured a marked contrast between Ken Hyland’s English for Academic Purposes approach and the Rhetoric and Composition approach of Matthew Martin and Jonathan Worley, St. Mary’s University College, Belfast.

Keynote Speakers

Ken Hyland, Centre for Academic and Professional Literacies, Institute of Education, London

Ken speaks on "Working with writing: Understanding texts, writers and readers".

Lawrence Cleary, Caroline Graham, Catherine Jeanneau and Íde O'Sullivan, Shannon Consortium Regional Writing Centre

Lawrence, Caroline, Catherine and Íde speak on "Responding to writing needs at the University of Limerick".
