UL Students – do you want to help showcase student life, while making some extra €€€?

Every year our Student Social Media Officer (SSMO) team work hand in hand with the UL Marketing and Communications department to bring to life the UL student experience. Whether it’s a blog about your academic activity or Erasmus experience, a video about your sporting passions or ultimate nightlife guide, or simply jumping on the latest TikTok trend while on campus – we want to help you tell your stories.

Student Social Media Officers (SSMOs) help to create exciting and engaging content for UL social media channels and website. This could include, but is not limited to:

  • Creating TikToks/Reels
  • Filming and editing longer-form video
  • On campus photography/videography
  • On-camera presenter roles for campus tours/Insider Guides etc.
  • Scripting content for other students to present
  • Writing blogs/articles for UL website
  • Creating voiceovers and subtitles for UL videos
  • Creating graphics, filters, GIFs etc for use on social

While UL's Marketing and Communications Department will, from time to time, have specific requests and asks for volunteers, you will very much be encouraged to come up with your own creative ideas and empowered to produce, edit, and post content that will appeal to our followers.

Simply download a copy of the form linked here and send your completed form along with 2  samples of your work to marketing@ul.ie.

Tips for your application:

  • SKILLS/INTERESTS: Primarily we’re looking for your skills in any form of content production here, but listing your personal passions and hobbies are also welcome as it may help in assigning content (i.e. someone very interested in Sport may be more suitable to assign to covering UL games for social where appropriate)
  • LINKS TO PUBLIC SOCIAL CHANNELS: If you have a public TikTok, blog, Insta etc. here’s the place to link it. Likewise if there’s a channel for a business or organisation you have previously created content for, you can share the info here. If you don’t have that yet, don’t worry, you can still share content directly. Which leads us to…

Samples of your work

Essentially, for whatever format of work you’d like to create for UL, we’d ask to see one or more examples of same. You can share as many different types of creative as you’d like. Some examples:

  • TikTok/Reel – examples of same
  • Graphic design – social assets, posters, leaflets etc.
  • Presenting – existing video of you or new self-filmed short delivery to camera
  • Video production/editing – existing materials or shoot sub 90 second video on campus that showcase your skills
  • Motion graphics – examples of same
  • Copywriting – e.g. 5 sample timeline posts for UL channels
  • Photography – examples of imagery taken on UL campus or of students/friends

Please note this is NOT an exhaustive list – if you have skills not listed above you feel would contribute to our work please do share.

Also remember do not have to be at professional level to apply – we welcome all skill levels and you’ll have the opportunity to learn on the job and from your fellow Student Social Media Officers (SSMOs).
