Welcoming the announcement, UL President Kerstin Mey said: “This ranking highlights and acknowledges the important work we are doing across the university when it comes to the environment and sustainability.

“We are building on several initiatives, such as the Glucksman Library banning of disposable cups, to embed the goals of sustainable development into our everyday lives from education to research and beyond.

“For example, the Innovative research project ISCycle is examining how e-bikes can change transport behaviours to improve health and protect the environment are underway to inform everyone how we can do better to protect our planet.

“And UL recently became the first university in Ireland to receive a gold Smarter Travel award in recognition of our commitment to changing attitudes and behaviours that facilitate, support and encourage sustainable travel options for staff, students and visitors.

“Our UL Green Campus Committee, Environmental Committee and Environmental Society made up of staff and students from across the campus, have led the way on many of these changes, which collectively can make a big difference.”

This result adds to UL’s improvement in a number of global rankings in the past year.
