Graduate profiles

Grainne is a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing (2017) and was a student on the MA in English at the University of Limerick (UL), where as part of her programme of study,along with her classmates on the MA English and MA Creative Writing programmes, she helped to edit and publish the “The Ogham Stone” literary journal. Grainne describes how this experience improved her editing and writing skills. She is currently working on a local project compiling an art anthology of the Burren region in Co. Clare.

I'm Ciara and I studied an MA in European Politics and Governance.
I've always had a passion for politics. I studied business as my undergraduate degree and whilst studying that I realised I wanted to study something that was related to politics for my postgraduate.

I am a genealogist living in Dublin. I always had ambitions to do a postgraduate degree. My undergraduate was a while ago and in between then and now, I completed a Level 7 certificate in family history at UCD.

Padraig is a graduate of the MA in History of Family. Padraig is a native of Limerick but currently lives in Meath where he works for Erin Research (www.erinresearch.ie) utilising the skills learnt in the MA in his current role.

Una Costello is a professional genealogist living in Ballina, Co Tipperary, who has set up her own genealogy research business: Celtic Genealogy (www.celticgenealogy.ie ). Una describes how the Masters in History of Family at UL helped her in her current career in geneology and the historical research surrounding this.

Carmel is a recent graduate of the MA in History of Family (online), Carmel resides in Australia and describes her experience of completing the MA remotely and her student experience in UL.

Kellie is a graduate of the MA in History programme at the University of Limerick. Kellie wrote her dissertation on Irish country houses as part of the MA programme. In this interview, she describes why she chose to study at UL, her experience of the Master’s programme, and her future plans.

My name is Janina and I am from Bulgaria. I have been living in Ireland for almost 10 years now. I came to Ireland to do my masters in International Studies at UL, and it was one of the best decisions I've made in my life.

I am from Connecticut, USA. I have been playing the harp for about 11 years now. My undergraduate degree was a BA in performance, and I wanted to expand my knowledge. I chose this course because I think the topics that it covers are interesting and it is a perfect combination of my favourite subjects, English, History and Music.

The course here at UL seemed to have the most diverse overview in that it covered the spectrum of skills a contemporary journalist needs to enter the field without veering too deeply into one particular discipline so much that it would neglect another.
