Master of Education (M.ED.)

THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT IT IS NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR ITS M.ED. STARTING THE LAST WEEKEND IN SEPTEMBER. AFTER THAT THE PROGRAM RUNS EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT FOR THE YEAR WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MID-TERM BREAKS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

THIS WILL BE THE SECOND INTAKE OF STUDENTS ON THE M.ED. WHICH MADE A SUCCESFUL START LAST YEAR. THE COURSE ATTRACTED STUDENTS FROM A WIDE VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS: SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS, PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS, SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, TUTORS AND TEACHING ASSISTANTS WORKING AT THE UNIVERSITY AND IN HIGHER EDUCATION SETTINGS.

COMMENTS TO DATE HAVE BEEN VERY FAVOURABLE:

I have enjoyed the intellectual stimulation and that the value of my experience of practice is a platform for expression. Adults learn very well together here in shared tutorials. The need to ask questions and seek understanding is at a far deeper level to what I am experiencing at school (secondary school teacher).

The evolution of leading teaching and learning, exploring various strands of leadership including transformative leadership and finding out what constitutes effective leadership and opportunity to broaden the mind (primary school principal).

I have learned new frameworks for thinking and critiquing. I have learned that my experience matters. That questions are more important than answers. I’ve enjoyed the challenge of developing new ways of thinking and am learning to feel comfortable questioning (teaching assistant in higher education).

THIS IS A TWO-YEAR PART TIME MASTERS DESIGNED FOR EDUCATION PRACTITIONERS WHO WANT TO GAIN FURTHER KNOWLEDGE AND UPSKILLING IN THE INTEGRATION OF RESEARCH, THEORY, POLICY, EXPEREINCE AND PRACTICE.

DETAILS ARE PROVIDED IN THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. THE PROGRAM IS INCLUDED IN THE FEE REFUND SCHEME FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SKILLS.
