Dr. Joanne O'Flaherty: PhD, (BSc) Physical Education, is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Education, University of Limerick. Joanne qualified as a Physical Education & English teacher and worked in a variety of educational settings, including the formal post-primary sector and the NGO sector, before joining the UL faculty. She is involved in coordinating and disseminating different education modules offered by the School of Education at both undergraduate and post-graduate level. Currently she is responsible for the Coordination of the Micro-Teaching Program (a lab-based practicum experience prior to school placement which focuses on the development of a number of competencies and practices of the beginning teacher). Joanne also acts as the Academic Coordinator of the Ubuntu Network, which seeks to foster the integration of global competencies in teacher preparation (see www.ubuntu.ie). Her research interests include pre-service teacher education, moral development, SEL and social justice education and she has published in these areas.
