Meet Joely

Hi, my name is Joely Grimes, and I am a product designer from Clonakilty, West Cork. As a kid, I enjoyed dismantling and rebuilding objects, and art was one of my favourite subjects in school. I am so happy to have found Product Design & Technology in UL, as it has allowed me to discover how vast the world of design is. I have learnt how good design can positively impact the world. Coming out of PDT, I feel that I have not only learnt necessary skills such as model making, sketching, but I have also learnt how to understand people and their needs and how to help people by using design. I would like to use the skills I have learnt in the past years to help design products and system that keep sustainability, the environment, and users at their core.

If you would like to get in touch with Joely you can email her.

EKOY

EKOY is a food storage container system made from bamboo pulp and silicone, both materials that can be repurposed and recycled easily. I wanted to keep sustainability at the centre of this product, as it is something I am very passionate about.

Ekoy is an easily assembled and repaired product. It is manufactured in such a way to allow for each component to separate for ease of end-of-life disposal. It was designed to be a lightweight, modular, and collapsible container and be utilised for multiple purposes, from storing liquids to dry goods. My aim with this product was to help reduce the amount of packaging that enters a person’s home. I hope this product will encourage the repurposing of products we already own.
