I wandered into the Product Design & Technology open day never having considered design before and walked out knowing what I wanted to do. Since I was young, I’ve been fascinated with creative endeavours, but fine art lacked a certain solidity. Design provided a bridge between the technical and creative.
Having the opportunity to apply both technical and artistic skills over these four years in the course has been an absolute pleasure, and a wonderful way to challenge myself and grow.

The idea for this project came to me as I wandered my hometown of Ennis, Co. Clare during the first Covid lockdown. I realised that there was nowhere to rest my feet or to shelter from the wind and rain. I wanted to take this challenge and create a positive impact on the urban environment. What I aimed to do with Restive, ultimately, was create a practical object that could enrich the streets of a small town or city.
Restive is a useful piece of urban furniture with built-in modularity for many uses. It can be fit to area to suit unique requirements, allowing it a more bespoke application.
