Biography
As from September 2017 Natascha Guggi joined the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics as UL's OeAD-lecturer. She studied German language and literature at the University of Graz in Austria and at the University of Modena, in Italy. Natascha began her career as a language assistant with the OeAD in Verona, Italy. She then went to work for the Caritas in Austria, teaching German to refugees. In 2022 she became a research assistant at the Centre for Irish-German Studies, her main task is to work on the DAAD-funded "Promoting German Studies in Ireland - Exploring the past, enhancing the current position, and working towards 250 years of German Studies in Ireland". In addition to research in the field of German Studies and German-Irish Studies, it falls to Natascha to proofread book contributions before they are published, to organise conferences and to provide technical support. She is also responsible for producing teaching materials for the university sector. Here she can draw on my experience as an OeAD-Lektorin at the University of Limerick, where she taught German Language, Literature and Austrian Studies & Politics for many years.
In 2021, Natascha decided to combine her interest in foreign languages and the European Union and write a doctoral thesis with the working title "Europeanisation in foreign language teaching". She is supported by Prof. Joachim Fischer (UL), Prof. Jean Conacher (UL) and Prof. Christian Fandrych (Herder Institute, Leipzig) in this project, which focuses on the question of whether and how European Studies are taught in secondary schools in Germany, Ireland and Austria.
In addition, Natascha is also an active member of the Centre for Irish-German Studies and the Centre for European Studies. For both, it falls to her to maintain the website and social media platforms, as well as to assist with the planning and implementation of events such as conferences, readings and embassy visits.
Research Interests
Due to my studies I have a big interest in German medieval studies, but I'm also very fond of new languages learning methods, such as Apps. In addition I want to focus on the role of creative writing in the language learning process.Professional Activities
