My research interests include ageing and persons with intellectual disability and specifically persons with intellectual disability and dementia. Competency assessment for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students. Preceptorship and the role of registered nurses as preceptors.As lead faculty on the MSc Nursing Dementia Care programme I have a particular interest in the study of dementia. In particular the role and experience of carers in community care settings, also the lived experiences of those diagnosed with young onset dementia. I am also interested in research studies that explore concepts of personhood and selfhood in the context of persons with dementia. I am also very interested in studies that explore non pharmacological interventions for persons wiht dementia, in particular SONAS apc and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.
