Biography

Ann-Marie is a lecturer on the Mental Health Nursing team at the University of Limerick. She holds a First Class B.Sc. (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing from the Institute of Technology, Tralee and went on to become the first Registered Psychiatric Nurse to graduate, in Ireland, with an M.Sc. in Perinatal Mental Health from the University of Limerick.
She has considerable experience of clinical practice and education in Mental Health. She worked in a number of clinical settings including; acute in-patient care, rehabilitation, perinatal mental health and psychosocial interventions. In addition to her clinical work Ann-Marie assumed various quality assurance roles serving as an ICP Champion and as Mental Health representative on a perinatal bereavement committee. She moved to academia in March 2020 as a lecturer at the University of Limerick.
Ann-Marie's passions are teaching and research. She is a doctoral student at the University of Limerick and her PhD focuses on the experiences of women prisoners in the context of mental healthcare in Irish prisons. Ann-Marie teaches across disciplines with a focus on mental health, perinatal mental health, psychosocial interventions and quality and safety in nursing. Ann-Marie facilitates reflective practice with nursing students as well as research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students at University of Limerick. In 2023, Ann-Marie was conferred with a Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Learning & Scholarship from the University of Limerick.
Ann-Marie leads the Mental Health Special Interest Group of the Irish Paramedicine Education and Research Network (IPERN) and is a serving member of the Inter-Professional Education Working Group affiliated with the Health Sciences Academy and the Healthy UL Addictive Behaviours sub-group.
