Biography
Following a career of 34 years as a speech and language therapist in the public health service in Ireland Seán completed his MA in TESOL at the University of Limerick in 2014. He was appointed Teaching Assistant TESOL/Linguistics in Oct 2017,and Associate Teacher TESOL/Linguistics in Jan 2020. Since then he has been teaching and tutoring in the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics. He completed his doctorate exploring the application of speech and language therapy principles to English Language Teaching in 2023. Seán also lectures on the Mature Student Access Certificate Course.Seán is a member of the Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS, UL) and TESOL International.
Research Interests
Following initial research on applying a phonological approach to fossilised pronunciation errors in Spanish learners of English (MA TESOL 2014) Seán's current doctoral research is looking at applying this speech therapy informed model to the English Language Teaching Classroom.
