Emeritus Sl. Vincent Casey


Attended St Joseph's College, Cahir, Co. Tipperary before moving on to Waterford RTC, DIT Kevin St, UCG and NIHE Limerick. Third level qualifications in Chemistry, Physics, Geophysics and Physical Electronics. PhD research on high temperature superconductivity. Course leader for first BSc in Applied Physics at UL. Founding and first head of Physics at UL.
Served on founding board of Ballyhoura Development and elected Chair of the Institute of Physics in Ireland. Interested in all aspects of physical science.

Research Interests

Research is in the general area of Physical Electronics with specialist interests in Thin Films and Solid State Sensors. He has participated in European (BRITE-EURAM) and National (Forbairt Strategic and Applied ) research programmes. He is keenly interested in the improvement of the Quality of Learning through Web Supported and Web Based Learning.

Teaching Interests

Over 30 years experience in the Irish higher education system in areas of experimental and general physics, solid state physics, thin films and sensors.
