Biography

See https://www.michaelquayle.net for more up-to-date information.
Broadly, my research explores the politics of identity, and how the local and immediate concerns of identity enactment can impact on broader socio-political processes. More specifically, I explore identity in gender and masculinity, race and racism, social identity and intergroup relations, identity and health, and stereotype threat.

Currently I am working on a network theory of attitudes funded by an ERC Starter award to consider how shared attitudes link people into groups, and people simultaneously link attitudes into groups.
