Biography
Dr Juliette Mc Mahon is a Lecturer in industrial relations at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick. Her primary research interests are in the field of workplace bullying, zero hours work, employment law and workplace climate.
in 2020 she was Co-PI on a study investigating workplace climate and Well-being commissioned by the Shannon Group (Shannon Airport, Shannon heritage, Shannon Commercial).
She is co-PI on an annual survey commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Ireland (CIPD) into HR practices in Ireland. To date there have been three reports : 2018, 2019 and 2020.
From 2015-2017 she co- led an in depth study into workplace climate and well being in the Irish Defence Forces. This was commissioned by the department of Defence and the Irish Defence Forces in partnership with the representative organisations representing Officers and other Ranks. This work resulted in two reports; The first detailing the results of a survey and the second detailing the results of in depth focus groups
In 2015 She was part of a team commissioned by the Irish Government to investigate the prevalence and effect of zero hours contracts in Ireland. The study was titled A Study on the Prevalence of Zero Hours Contracts Among Irish Employers and their Impact on Employees..
Juliet was also co PI on a study in 2010 investigating workplace bullying in the nursing profession. This study was conducted with the support of the largest nursing union in Ireland: The Irish Midwives and Nurses Association (INMO) and returned a sample of 3000 usable surveys. She is also an honorary fellow of the National Anti Bullying Research and resource Centre in Dublin City University (DCU)More recently she has been one of a team of researchers from the Department of Work and Employment Studies in a number of projects:
- A project funded by the Financial Services Union investigating the impact of technology on employees
- A project funded by Skillsnet Ireland investigating current and future skills needs in an era of digitisation
She is Course Director of a long running and successful part time HR programme at the University of Limerick
