Dr Eva Sansavior, BA (Hons), MPhil, PhD (UCL)


Career to date:


2012- present- Lecturer in French


2008-2012- CDF/Tutor in French and Francophone Caribbean Literature, Oriel College, University of Oxford



Funded network research activities:


· Developed a four-year Leverhulme-funded project at the University of Oxford ‘Globalizations: Francophone Caribbean Writing in Context'.



Highlights of this project included:


· An international conference ‘Caribbean Globalizations: Histories, Cultures and Genres, 1493 to the Present Day', Oriel College, Oxford and Maison Française d'Oxford, 27 September- 29 September, 2010.


· An art exhibition.


· A programme of Caribbean-themed dance and music workshops.


· 3 study days ‘Haitian Texts and Contexts' - June 23, 2010; ‘1493 and All That: The First Globalization?' – March 20, 2011; 'Literary Manifestos: Writers and Globalization' - March 21, 2011.


Current research:


My current research focuses on intersections and disjunctures between the ‘literary', ‘the ‘political' and ‘the aesthetic' in French and Postcolonial literary and visual cultures. Recent research has explored black transatlantic modernisms and dialogues between early modern French and Francophone Postcolonial literary cultures.

Teaching Interests



I teach French, Francophone and Comparative literature and culture at all undergraduate levels and on the MA in Modern Languages and the MA in French. My teaching spans a broad range of historical periods (from the eighteenth–century to the present day) and genres (novels, poetry, film, theatre and art).
