Supporting the Young People in our Lives

Many parents and professionals are concerned with the impact of COVID-19 on the developmental trajectory of children and young people. This talk will outline how childhood and adolescence are distinct developmental periods and discuss strategies and resources to support young people during this time. Jennifer will also present some initial findings from Co-SPACE, a UL research study tracking child and adolescent mental health during COVID-19.
NatureMoves: How being active in nature promotes resilience.

Nature is somewhere that offers us sanctuary and solace, an idea not lost on the Victorians who created an array of public parks. We now know that it fuels our resilience too. Positive emotions and vitality from our nature interactions help us gain perspective on issues, and reach out to others which is vital for coping which a global pandemic. A range of pathways to discovering nature are outlined, including technological or digital nature, which can be used by healthcare workers and essential staff for micro-breaks, to maintain their well-being and their work performance.

Does Mindfulness Work and How Do I Get Started?

This seminar/ workshop will give you a brief introduction to the theory, science and practice of Mindfulness. You will get an insight into the proven benefits of mindfulness in supporting and improving health & wellbeing and understand how to cultivate and nourish some mindful moments in your own daily life. We will have an opportunity to pause and practice some short mindfulness moments together. This seminar is being offered by Clodagh McCarthy, Certified MBSR Teacher by the CFM in Boston. She has been offering MBSR Courses in Cork and Dublin since 2010 and Mindfulness Courses for the staff of UL over the past number of years as well for teachers and students in Schools, Education Centres and other Universities around the country.
