Hama is an Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) Scholar for 2011. He is currently researching civil society organisations in Kenya and Zimbabwe and their role in the consolidation democratisation since 1997. He is a member of the European Doctoral Enhancement Network in Peace and Conflict Studies. During 2010 he held a Marie Curie early stage research fellowship in sustainable peace building at Sabanci University in Istanbul Turkey.
