PESS Research Centres, Institutes and Units
Staff within the PESS Department has been involved in the initiation and development of a number of research centres and units.
Physical Education, Physical Activity and Youth Sport (PEPAYS) Ireland
The mission of PE-PAYS is to advance the physical and social wellbeing of Irish children and youth through the creation and dissemination of knowledge on physical education, physical activity, and youth sport that informs policy and practice.
Centre for Physical Activity and Health Research (C-PAHR)
The Centre for Physical Activity and Health Research, based at the University of Limerick, conducts multidisciplinary and translational research in physical activity and health. The centre’s mission is to improve health, well-being and quality of life in individuals via the application of knowledge of physical activity, movement and health for optimum daily living, occupation and sport.
UL BEO
UL Beo is an initiative from the University of Limerick to support and develop projects in the areas of Physical Activity, Health, Lifestyle and Sport and aims to have UL recognised as a national and European leader and innovator in the practise and research of sport and physical activity. PESS is at the core of the initiative, UL Beo already supports a wide range of .activities in high performance sport, including supporting the new UL sports scholarships as well as working with side range of leading national and international coaches and athletes. It holds regular seminars and workshops and outreach events and a number of community based physical activity and research projects. Biomechanics Research Unit (BRU)
The mission statement of BRU is to advance the research in the interdiscipline of biomechanics at UL and achieve international recognition for the quality of its research output and graduate students.
