Inaugural BMBS Alumni Event

Saturday 2nd November was a proud day for UL School of Medicine as it held its Inaugural Alumni Event connecting BMBS alumni with our current students. The event, opened by Professor Deirdre McGrath, Head of School, is an integral part of the Alumni Engagement work the School is currently undertaking which includes the launching of the School of Medicine Alumni Mentoring Programme this year.

The morning session saw the return of two of the School of Medicine's first cohort of graduates: Dr Mike O’Callaghan and Dr Eimer O’Malley who delivered fascinating, honest and inspiring presentations on their Medical Career Journey and providing invaluable insights into life as a post graduate trainee and doctor in Ireland in the hospital and general practice setting. They also listed the career destinations of their cohort and it was incredible to see what this first cohort have achieved in such a short space of time. It was also heart-warming to hear that all 32 graduates remain a close knit group.

The afternoon session focussed on North America with three of our graduates: Dr Shane Murphy, Dr Luke Kieswetter and Dr Kyle Lee facilitating a highly informative interactive session on their journey back from the University of Limerick to North America.

We would like to sincerely thank all of our graduates, who gave so generously of their time to participate in these outstanding sessions.
