Employer Case Study
A Clear Vision for Firecrest
Recent graduate James Corcoran used his third-semester in-company project to carry out a value study and help define the vision and improve the efficiency of his company’s work for University College Dublin. James worked for Firecrest, a division of ICON Plc, focused on enhancing patient engagement and supporting patient recruitment and retention. UCD contracted Firecrest to create a video which would be used across social media platforms to help raise awareness about diabetes among the school-aged population.
Using the knowledge and skills gained in the UL Masters Degree in Project & Programme Management, James focused on creating a clear vision of the project’s key criteria and functions, aligning thinking towards a defined goal and improving the efficiency of the project plan to reduce the estimated duration. The project team, including James’ supervisor, Sean Kirwan, found his contribution invaluable for refining the scope of the project and giving perspective on what truly constituted value in the project. In addition to improving the project for UCD, James revealed a new approach to project planning and management that will be used by Firecrest going forward.
