PhD Opportunities in Inverse Problems – University of Limerick:
There is an opportunity for 2 fully funded PhD positions in Dr Romina Gaburro’s inverse problems research group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and MACSI at UL.
This project is a multi-disciplinary initiative that integrates mathematics, machine learning, and geophysics to image the Earth's subsurface. Its primary goal is to address sustainability challenges by detecting geothermal energy sources and identifying subsurface aquifers, contributing to the development of cleaner energy solutions and improved water resource management. The project will enable PhD scholars to engage with a broad network of international collaborators based in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy, fostering academic exchange and interdisciplinary research through visits and joint activities with these partners.
The successful candidates will work on the mathematical analysis and development of new reconstruction methods in anisotropic inverse problems. I am seeking motivated applicants, ideally with a strong background in analysis and a keen interest in computational inverse problems.
📅 Application Deadline: 15th July 2025
📍 Start Date: Ideally October 2025
💼 Funding: Full funding for 4 years
